TL;DR: Female Founder Grants Directory 2026, What 18 Women's Business Grants Really Pay
The Female Founder Grants Directory 2026 in 2026 shows you which of 18 grants for women founders are worth your hours and which are not.
Most female founder grants are micro-grants, not runway.
- The median award is $5,000. The mean of $13,265 looks bigger only because two $50,000 programs, EmpowHER and Fund Her Future, pull it up. Of the 17 programs that disclose an amount, 9 cap at $5,000 or less.
- Geography rules you in or out. Every program that states a location is US-only or Canada-only. None are open to EU companies. Three programs charge application fees of $12.50 to $25.
- What you gain: a quick way to filter by country, legal entity, and ownership percentage. You also get a method for comparing grants by cash per typical winner, number of winners, and application effort instead of "up to" headlines.
Are you based in Europe? Skip the US prizes and start with these EU grants for female entrepreneurs or the €75,000 Women TechEU grant.
The directory was compiled by Violetta Bonenkamp (Mean CEO), founder of CADChain and Fe/male Switch. Sources were checked in October 2026.
The Amber Grant and the Women Founders Grant both close on 31 October 2026. Your five-grant shortlist needs to be ready before then.

European Startup Grants Directory 2026
This Female Founder Grants Directory 2026 exists because finding non-dilutive money should not require you to dig through dozens of outdated lists, recycled blog posts, and social media ads promising six-figure checks. This directory brings together 18 grant programs for women founders, with details on funding amount, eligibility, deadline, fees, and current status. Most lists only tell you a grant exists. This one also shows you which grants are worth your hours and which ones are not.
I am Violetta Bonenkamp, also known as Mean CEO. I run several companies in parallel, including CADChain, a deeptech company for CAD and IP protection, and Fe/male Switch, a women-first startup game and online incubator. My companies have received national and EU-level grants. I have also sat through accelerators such as Yes!Delft, TU/e Launch, and Brightlands. I wrote this directory for female founders, solopreneurs, freelancers, and small business owners who want to decide fast which applications to file this quarter. The sources were reviewed in October 2026.
“Women do not need more inspiration; they need infrastructure.” That is the lens I used for every entry below: what does this grant actually put in your bank account, and what does it cost you to get it?
What is the quick answer for female founders looking for grants in 2026?
If you only have five minutes, start here. I used neutral labels with explicit criteria instead of calling anything “the best,” because the right grant depends on your country, revenue, and legal entity.
- Largest disclosed single award: EmpowHER Grants and Fund Her Future by Block Advisors, both up to $50,000. EmpowHER pays as reimbursement of business expenses. Fund Her Future adds a year of bookkeeping, payroll, and tax support.
- Most frequent award cycles: Amber Grant by WomensNet, awarded MONTHLY with a year-end award on top.
- Lowest entry barrier: YippityDoo Big Idea Grant, $1,000 monthly, open to US women aged 18+ at any stage, including the idea stage.
- Relevant for revenue-stage companies: Entreprenista Evolve Grant ($5,000, requires $100,000 annual revenue and more than one year of operation) and SkinnyDipped Female Founder Fund ($25,000 for food businesses with $150K+ revenue).
- Only country-specific option outside the US in the reviewed data: BMO Celebrating Women Grant for Canada.
- Important caveat: In the reviewed sources, ZERO programs were open to EU-based companies. If you are a European founder, treat this directory as a benchmark and a reference for US subsidiaries, not as your main funding pipeline.
What do the 2026 numbers reveal about female founder grants?
Here is where it gets uncomfortable. I took every program in the dataset, extracted the headline maximum award, and ran simple statistics on it. The pattern is clear, and it is not the story most grant listicles tell you.
- 17 of 18 programs (94%) disclose a headline amount. The BMO Celebrating Women Grant does not disclose an amount in the reviewed sources.
- The MEDIAN headline maximum is $5,000. Half of all programs top out at that number or below.
- The MEAN headline maximum is about $13,265, more than 2.6 times the median. Two $50,000 programs pull the average up and make the whole category look richer than it is.
- 9 of 17 programs (53%) cap at $5,000 or less. Three of those cap at $1,000.
- Only 4 of 17 programs (24%) reach $25,000 or more for a single winner.
- 6 programs explicitly require a US-based business, 1 is Canada-only, and the rest do not state geography in the reviewed sources. NONE are EU-specific.
- 3 of 18 programs (17%) disclose an application fee, ranging from $12.50 to $25.
- 6 of 18 programs (33%) had already closed their 2026 window by October 2026.
- 3 programs set revenue or operating-age thresholds, and 3 programs set women-ownership thresholds between 51% and 100%.
My reading of these numbers: the female founder grant market in 2026 is mostly a micro-grant market with a few large prizes on top. A $5,000 grant can pay for a prototype run, a trademark filing, or three months of software. It will not replace a pre-seed round. If you plan your runway around the headline $50,000 awards, you are planning around the 2 programs out of 17 that pay that much, to a handful of winners.
Why does the median matter more than the maximum?
Grant marketing loves the word “up to.” EmpowHER offers up to $50,000, and that is the ceiling for a reimbursement, not a guaranteed check. Fund Her Future gives $50,000 to one grand prize winner and $12,500 each to four others, so the total cash pool is $100,000 across five businesses. The Kitty Fund Mompreneur Business Grant distributes $1,000 each to 20 recipients, a pool of $20,000. When you compare grants, compare the amount the typical winner receives, not the biggest number on the landing page.
What does the expected value of a grant application look like?
None of the reviewed sources disclose applicant numbers or acceptance rates, so treat this as a thinking tool, not data. Picture a $5,000 grant with a $25 fee and 500 applicants for one award. Your expected cash value is $5,000 divided by 500, which is $10, minus the $25 fee. That is a negative $15 bet before you count your time. Now flip it: with 50 applicants, the expected value becomes $100 minus $25. Fees are small, but they turn low-odds grants into lottery tickets, and you should know which game you are playing.
Here is the second hypothetical I want founders to sit with. If 200 applicants each pay a $25 fee, the organiser collects $5,000, the exact amount of one grant. I am not claiming any program on this list operates that way. I am telling you to ask the question before you pay.
Which grants are in the Female Founder Grants Directory 2026 at a glance?
All amounts are in US dollars unless stated otherwise. “Not disclosed” means the reviewed sources did not state the field, not that the field does not exist. Status reflects source pages reviewed in October 2026.

How was this directory built and verified?
I care about method because grant lists copy each other, and errors spread fast. Let’s break it down.
- Scope: Cash grants, micro-grants, and pitch prizes for women founders with 2026 cycles. Venture capital funds and recognition lists are excluded from the main directory.
- Discovery: Official program pages (Women Founders Grant, WomensNet Amber Grant, IFundWomen) plus third-party compilations from NerdWallet, Nav, Lunr Capital, and Cocountant.
- Inclusion criteria: The program targets women founders, offers non-repayable money, names a 2026 cycle or ongoing cycle, and gives enough detail for you to take a next step.
- Exclusion criteria: Unnamed social media offers, investors that take equity, and programs whose only evidence was an unverifiable claim.
- Verification: Entries checked against an official page are labelled Verified. Entries based on a reputable third-party source are labelled Partially verified.
- Ranking: Entries are ordered by headline amount, from largest to smallest. Order is not a quality ranking.
- Commercial relationships: No sponsorships and no affiliate links. Nobody paid for inclusion.
- Limitations: Acceptance rates, applicant counts, and award distributions are not public for any program in this dataset.
“Verified” means the stated details were checked against an official source in October 2026. It does not mean I endorse the organisation or guarantee acceptance, payment, or availability.
Which sources did this directory trust first?
- Official program pages and application portals.
- Official terms, rules, and FAQ pages.
- Reputable third-party finance publishers, clearly labelled as such.
Where sources disagree, I show both values. That happened three times, and those conflicts are some of the most useful findings in this article.
Where did the sources contradict each other?
- Women Founders Grant: NerdWallet describes a monthly $5,000 grant closing on the last day of each month. Nav lists a 2026 close date of 30 April 2026. The official Women Founders Grant application page shows a deadline of 31 October 2026 and a $25 non-refundable fee. Trust the official page.
- Amber Grant: Cocountant describes $10,000 monthly to three businesses plus $25,000 to three year-end winners. The official Amber Grant application page by WomensNet lists monthly $10,000 winners for May through September 2026 and advertises the next $15,000 Amber Grant with a cutoff of 31 October 2026.
- BMO Celebrating Women Grant: One summary calls 2 April 2026 a deadline. Nav says the application portal opens on 2 April 2026. Those are opposite instructions.
My takeaway as someone who has filled in grant forms in several countries: never apply from a listicle. Open the official page, screenshot the rules on the day you apply, and save it in your evidence folder.
How should you use this directory before you apply?
Do not read all 18 entries. Filter first. Here is the five-step sequence I use with founders inside Fe/male Switch.
- Confirm hard eligibility: country, legal entity, ownership percentage, age, revenue, sector, and deadline. One “no” ends the conversation.
- Compare real value: cash amount for a typical winner, extra services, mentorship, and visibility. A $1,000 grant with a year of coaching might beat a $5,000 grant with a fee and long odds.
- Calculate the trade-off: application hours, fees, reimbursement delays, and reporting.
- Verify current details: open the official page and check dates against the table above.
- Shortlist 3 to 5 programs: record fit, next action, owner, and deadline in a simple spreadsheet.
Before you apply: The most common mistake is reading “up to $50,000” as “I will get $50,000.” Reimbursement grants pay back money you already spent, so you need cash in the bank first.
Which large grants (over $10,000) can female founders apply for in 2026?
This category serves founders who already have a working business and a clear plan for the money. Competition is likely highest here, so your application has to read like an investment memo, not a wish list.
1. EmpowHER Grants (Boundless Futures Foundation)
One-line summary: A twice-yearly reimbursement grant of up to $50,000 for young US companies working on poverty, hunger, humanitarian aid, or environmental and climate issues.
- Type: Reimbursement grant for business expenses
- Eligibility: Female founders aged 22+, US-based for-profit business, earning revenue, less than 5 years old
- Timing: Fall cycle opens 1 November 2026
- Status: Upcoming | Label: Partially verified (via the NerdWallet list of small-business grants for women)
Why it may fit: It carries the highest ceiling in this directory and targets impact companies that often struggle with traditional investors. Watch-outs: Reimbursement means you spend first and get paid later, which hurts cash-poor founders. The mission filter is strict, so a generic e-commerce brand will not qualify. Next step: Build a cost list of eligible expenses with invoices before 1 November.
2. Fund Her Future by Block Advisors
One-line summary: A grant program from Block Advisors by H&R Block with a $50,000 grand prize, four $12,500 awards, and a year of bookkeeping, payroll, and tax support for winners.
- Type: Grant plus professional services
- Eligibility: Women business owners with clear growth plans
- Timing: Not disclosed in reviewed sources
- Status: Status unclear | Label: Partially verified (via Cocountant’s guide to small business grants for women)
Why it may fit: The back-office support is worth real money. Most solo founders I mentor lose hours every month to bookkeeping they hate. Watch-outs: Only five winners, and the reviewed sources do not show 2026 dates. Next step: Prepare a one-page growth plan with numbers, then check the official Block Advisors page for cycle dates.
3. Amber Grant by WomensNet
One-line summary: A long-running monthly grant for women-owned businesses with a simple written application and an extra $25,000 year-end award.
- Type: Monthly grant plus year-end grant and category grants (skilled trades, food and beverage, STEM, creative arts, and more)
- Eligibility: Women-owned businesses at any stage, no industry restriction
- Timing: Next cutoff 31 October 2026; winners announced by the 21st of the following month
- Status: Open | Label: Verified on the official page in October 2026
Why it may fit: One application makes you eligible for all related WomensNet grants, so the effort-to-chance ratio is good. Watch-outs: The amount varies between sources ($10,000 vs. $15,000), so read the current month’s rules. If the third-party description of three $10,000 monthly winners plus three $25,000 year-end winners is correct, the annual pool would be about $435,000. Next step: Write a 300-word story about your business and exactly what you would buy with the money.
4. SkinnyDipped Female Founder Fund
One-line summary: A $25,000 grant plus six months of mentorship from a female-founded snack brand, for women-owned food businesses.
- Eligibility: Women-owned food businesses with $150K+ annual revenue
- Timing: Not disclosed
- Status: Status unclear | Label: Partially verified (via Lunr Capital’s 2026 resources for women entrepreneurs)
Why it may fit: Industry-specific grants usually have smaller applicant pools, and mentorship from an operator in the same category beats generic coaching. Watch-outs: The revenue threshold excludes early food startups. Next step: Pull your trailing 12-month revenue figure and margin data now.
5. Girlboss Foundation Grant
One-line summary: A $15,000 project grant awarded twice a year to women in design, fashion, music, and the arts, plus digital exposure on Girlboss channels.
- Judging criteria: Creativity, business acumen, career goals, and financial need
- Status: Status unclear | Label: Partially verified (via a career guide to small-business grants for women)
Why it may fit: Creative founders rarely find grants that value portfolio work. Watch-outs: Project funds, so describe a defined project, not general operations. Next step: Pick one project with a budget and a deadline, then confirm the current cycle.
Which mid-size grants ($5,000 to $10,000) are open to women founders?
This is the busiest category in the directory. These grants suit founders who need a specific purchase funded: a website rebuild, inventory, a trade show, or legal fees. Think of them as targeted tools.
6. Hey Helen Grant Program
One-line summary: A $10,000 grant for 100% women-owned US businesses with a $15 application fee. Closed 30 April 2026. Label: Partially verified (via Nav’s comparison of small business grants for women).
Why it may fit: Higher amount than most micro-grants. Watch-outs: The 100% ownership rule excludes any company with a male co-founder or an outside investor. Next step: Check your cap table, then watch for the 2027 cycle.
7. SoGal Ventures grants
One-line summary: $5,000 to $10,000 non-dilutive grants for Black women and nonbinary founders building early-stage companies with growth potential. Status unclear. Label: Partially verified (via Lunr Capital).
Why it may fit: SoGal is also a venture investor, so a grant relationship can open doors later. Watch-outs: Targeted at venture-style companies, not lifestyle businesses. Next step: Prepare a short deck with your market size and traction.
8. Halstead Grant
One-line summary: An annual award for silver jewelry artists: $7,500 plus benefits for the winner, $1,000 plus benefits for finalists. Closed 1 May 2026. Label: Partially verified (via Nav).
Why it may fit: Narrow niche, which usually means fewer competitors. Watch-outs: The application asks for a business plan, marketing strategy, financials, and a portfolio, which is heavy work. Next step: Start your portfolio and financials now for the next cycle.
9. Women Founders Grant
One-line summary: A $5,000 grant with a two-question application and a $25 non-refundable fee. Official deadline: 31 October 2026. Label: Verified.
Why it may fit: Short form, fast to complete, and the organiser states “No BS, No Strings Attached.” Watch-outs: Paid application, and conflicting cycle information across sources. Next step: Answer the two questions in a draft document first, then decide if the $25 is worth it for you.
10. Entreprenista Evolve Grant
One-line summary: A quarterly $5,000 grant for US women-owned or women-led companies with $100,000 annual revenue and more than one year of operation. Deadline 30 November 2026. Label: Partially verified (via NerdWallet).
Why it may fit: The revenue threshold filters out most applicants, which may improve your odds if you qualify. Watch-outs: Sole proprietorships are NOT eligible; you must be a corporation, LLC, LLP, or nonprofit. Next step: Confirm your entity registration documents are in order.
11. The Breakthrough Grant by Her Agenda
One-line summary: A $5,000 grant for women entrepreneurs subscribed to the Her Agenda newsletter, with a $25 fee or $12.50 for Insider members. Closed 18 September 2026. Label: Partially verified (via Nav).
Watch-outs: Newsletter subscription plus a fee means the grant also works as audience building for the organiser. That is not wrong, but know the deal. Next step: Subscribe early if you plan to apply in the next cycle.
12. Planet and Purpose Grant
One-line summary: A $5,000 cash grant for US product companies with at least 51% female ownership and an environmental component. Closed 23 April 2026. Label: Partially verified (via Nav).
Next step: Document your environmental claims with data now, since vague green language rarely wins.
13. Money Moves Pitch Competition
One-line summary: A pitch prize from Manifest Your Purpose: $5,000 first, $3,500 second, $1,500 third, open to US women-owned service and product businesses, including the ideation phase. Closed 30 August 2026. Label: Partially verified (via NerdWallet).
Why it may fit: Three paid places instead of one. Pitch practice alone pays off for idea-stage founders. Next step: Record a 3-minute pitch and get feedback from five people before the next round.
14. IFundWomen grants
One-line summary: A hub of partner-funded grants accessed through one universal application, including a $5K IFW Startup Accelerator grant, plus coaching and fundraising tools. Rolling. Label: Verified via the IFundWomen open grants application page, updated October 2026.
Why it may fit: One profile, many chances. That is the kind of infrastructure I like. Next step: Complete the universal application once and keep it updated monthly.
Which micro-grants under $5,000 suit early-stage women founders?
Micro-grants serve idea-stage founders, side-hustlers, and solopreneurs. The money is small. The real value is often the extra: coaching, a community, or an accelerator seat.
15. YippityDoo Big Idea Grant
One-line summary: $1,000 every month to a woman-owned business, plus a one-year wealth mindset coaching membership. Open to US women aged 18+ at any stage, with a short application. Rolling. Label: Partially verified (via Cocountant).
Watch-outs: Twelve winners per year across the whole US. Next step: Write a clear, specific business idea description and reuse it across micro-grants.
16. HerRise MicroGrant by HerSuiteSpot
One-line summary: Roughly $1,000 monthly grants with a focus on under-resourced founders and women of color. Rolling. Label: Partially verified (via Lunr Capital).
17. Kitty Fund Mompreneur Business Grant (Founders First CDC)
One-line summary: $1,000 each to 20 recipients, combined with an accelerator program, for mothers running businesses. Closed 14 April 2026. Label: Partially verified (via Nav).
Why it may fit: Twenty winners is a far better ratio than one. The accelerator component matters more than the cash. Next step: Read the program FAQs, since specific requirements apply.
18. BMO Celebrating Women Grant
One-line summary: A Canadian grant for businesses at least 51% owned and controlled by women or nonbinary individuals. The application portal opened 2 April 2026. Amount not disclosed in reviewed sources. Status unclear. Label: Partially verified (via Nav).
Why it may fit: The only non-US option in this dataset, and inclusive of nonbinary founders. Next step: Check BMO’s official page for the current amount and close date.
Which related resources did not make the main directory?
- Fearless Fund: investment and grant organisation for women of color; grant amounts not disclosed in reviewed sources.
- Galaxy Grants: small grants for women and minority entrepreneurs, paired with education and networking; amounts not disclosed.
- Female Founders Fund: an early-stage venture capital firm. It takes equity, so it is not a grant.
- Inc. Female Founders 500: the Inc. 2026 Female Founders 500 list is recognition, not funding, but it is useful for studying how funded founders tell their stories.
How do you spot a fake or misleading female founder grant?
During this research, a social media post promised a “Women-Led Business Grant 2026” with $25,000 to $750,000 in funding and no application fee. The upper figure is 15 times the largest award in this entire directory. It did not name a funder in the excerpt I reviewed. I did not include it.
- Red flag 1: No named organisation, no official domain, no published rules.
- Red flag 2: Amounts far above the market median of $5,000 with no clear source of money.
- Red flag 3: Requests for bank login details, upfront “processing fees” after you win, or ID scans before any review.
- Red flag 4: The same grant appears with different amounts and dates across sites, and no official page exists.
From my experience building IP protection tooling at CADChain, I also want you to watch what you share. Grant applications ask for business ideas, product designs, and financials. Never upload confidential designs or unprotected IP to an organiser you cannot identify. Protection should be invisible and automatic, so set up your IP hygiene before you start mass-applying.
Which grants fit which founder profile?
What should bootstrapped founders prioritise?
Pick grants with no fee and low admin load. My shortlist: Amber Grant (one form covers several grants), IFundWomen (universal application), and YippityDoo (short form plus coaching). Avoid reimbursement grants like EmpowHER unless you have cash to spend upfront.
What should women founders check about ownership rules?
Ownership thresholds vary from 51% (BMO, Planet and Purpose) to 100% (Hey Helen). If you have a male co-founder or took angel money, you may already be out of several programs. Some programs say “woman-owned or led,” like Entreprenista, which is broader. Targeted grants are welcome, but they do not fix the structural funding gap. They are a small patch on a big hole, and you should plan the rest of your capital stack with that in mind.
What should solopreneurs watch out for?
Entity type is the silent killer. Entreprenista excludes sole proprietorships. Most micro-grants do not. Solopreneurs should start with YippityDoo, HerRise, Women Founders Grant, and Amber Grant, because they need no team, no deck, and little reporting.
Can EU and European founders use this directory?
Mostly no, and I want to be blunt about this as a European founder. Every program with stated geography in this dataset is US or Canada only. The grant money that mattered for my own companies came from national and EU-level programs, not US women-only prizes. EU-level schemes under Horizon Europe, including women-focused calls such as Women TechEU, sit outside this dataset, so check them on official EU portals. Also check your national enterprise agency and regional development funds.
One route does exist: European founders with a US subsidiary may meet US-based criteria. Before you set one up for a $5,000 grant, count the cost of a US entity, a US bank account, and US tax filing. In most cases, it is not worth it for a micro-grant alone. Also note that the UK and Switzerland run separate schemes from the EU, so never assume “Europe” means one set of rules.
How do you choose between grants without wasting weeks?
Rate each grant from 1 to 5 on seven factors. I call this a Grant Fit Rating Sheet. Add the numbers and only apply to grants above 25 out of 35.
- Eligibility fit: Do you pass every hard rule without stretching?
- Usable cash: Amount after fees, taxes, and reimbursement delays.
- Odds signal: Number of winners per cycle (20 winners beats 1).
- Application effort: Two questions vs. a full business plan and portfolio.
- Speed to money: Monthly decisions vs. annual cycles.
- Reporting burden: Receipts, updates, and publicity duties.
- Strategic fit: Does the money pay for the next thing you already planned?
A high rating does not make a grant better for everyone. It means the grant is a stronger match for your profile and the criteria in this article.
Which shortlist matches your scenario?
| Founder scenario | Recommended options | Why they fit | Main caveat |
|---|---|---|---|
| US idea-stage solo founder | YippityDoo, Money Moves, Amber Grant | Accept idea-stage or any-stage applicants | Small amounts, one winner per cycle for most |
| US company with $100K+ revenue | Entreprenista Evolve, Fund Her Future, SkinnyDipped (food) | Revenue thresholds shrink the applicant pool | Entity type and sector rules |
| Impact or climate company in the US | EmpowHER, Planet and Purpose | Mission-specific criteria | Reimbursement model; 2026 Planet and Purpose round closed |
| Creative or design founder | Girlboss Foundation, Halstead (silver jewelry) | Portfolio-based judging | Heavy portfolio and plan requirements |
| Black women and nonbinary founders | SoGal, HerRise, Fearless Fund | Targeted eligibility | Dates not disclosed in reviewed sources |
| Canadian founder | BMO Celebrating Women Grant | Only Canada-specific entry | Amount not disclosed |
| EU-based founder | National and EU portals first; IFundWomen for US entities | No EU programs in this dataset | US entity costs |
What is the step-by-step grant application playbook?
In Fe/male Switch, we treat grant applications as quests inside a startup game, because “gamification without skin in the game is useless.” Each quest ends with a real asset you can reuse. Here is the playbook.
I recommend using AI as a drafting assistant for steps 3 and 5, with a human in the loop. Let the AI produce the first draft from your notes, then rewrite it in your own voice. Judges can tell when 300 applicants pasted the same generic prompt output.
Which mistakes should you avoid?
- Applying from a third-party list without opening the official page.
- Paying several $25 fees for long-odds grants every month without tracking results.
- Describing your passion instead of your plan. Organisers fund outcomes.
- Applying to reimbursement grants with no cash buffer.
- Ignoring ownership thresholds after a co-founder or investor joined.
- Treating grants as your whole funding plan. At a median of $5,000, they are a supplement.
What can this directory not tell you?
- Deadlines, amounts, and rules can change without notice, as the Women Founders Grant and Amber Grant conflicts show.
- No program in this dataset publishes acceptance rates or applicant numbers.
- Headline amounts differ from typical awards and from cash received upfront.
- Grants may count as taxable income depending on your jurisdiction. Ask your accountant.

Frequently asked questions about female founder grants in 2026
Is this directory free to use?
Yes. There are no affiliate links and no sponsored placements. No organisation paid to appear here.
What is the average grant size for women founders in 2026?
Across 17 programs with disclosed amounts, the median maximum award is $5,000 and the mean is about $13,265. The mean is inflated by two $50,000 programs, so the median gives the more honest picture.
Do I have to pay to apply for women’s business grants?
Some programs charge small fees: Women Founders Grant ($25), Hey Helen ($15), and the Breakthrough Grant ($25 or $12.50). Legitimate grants never ask for a fee after you win.
Can non-US founders apply?
Most programs with stated geography require a US business. BMO serves Canada. EU founders should look at national and EU-level programs first.
What does “verified” mean here?
It means amount, deadline, and fee were checked against the organiser’s official page in October 2026. “Partially verified” means the details come from a reputable third-party publisher.
Are closed programs removed?
No. Closed programs stay listed with a “Closed” label, because many run annually and you can prepare early. I only state that a new round is coming when an official source confirms it.
How are entries ordered?
By headline amount, from largest to smallest. The order is not a quality ranking.

How can organisations submit or correct a listing?
Represent an eligible grant program for women founders? Submit the official URL, current terms, eligible geography, fee, and a contact for verification. Submissions are free. Submission does not guarantee inclusion or a positive review. Programs get rejected for missing official rules, unclear funders, or fees charged after winning. Personal contact details are never published, and corrections require a source.
What should you do next?
Start by filtering for country, entity type, and ownership percentage. Then compare usable cash, number of winners, and application effort. Shortlist no more than five programs, verify the terms on the official page, and give each one a next action and a deadline. Three open windows sit right in front of you: Amber Grant and Women Founders Grant (31 October 2026), EmpowHER (opens 1 November 2026), and Entreprenista Evolve (30 November 2026).
My honest view after years of grant forms on two continents: grants are a tool, not a business model. The founders who win them treat applications like a repeatable system, not a lottery. So here is your one action for this week: build your 5-grant tracker today, with eligibility, deadline, amount, fee, and next step for each line. Then file the first application before Friday.

Can women founders combine grants with business loans?
Yes. Adding a grant on top of a loan reduces how much you need to borrow. Pair loans with prizes such as the UK Women in Innovation Award (£75,000). Where can US women find government grant support beyond private prizes?

Don't skip smaller grants or ignore reviewer feedback, and reuse rejected drafts as templates. Read the guide to securing government grants for women-owned businesses.
Are there grants for LGBTQIA+ or veteran women business owners?
Founders First CDC runs two sister programs to the Kitty Fund. The National Pride Grant for LGBTQIA+ small businesses opened in April 2026, and the Stephen L. Are EmpowHER Grants and the EmpowerHer Fund the same program?
No. NerdWallet lists them separately: EmpowHER Grants come from the Boundless Futures Foundation, while the EmpowerHer Fund is a different program. Similar names lead to misdirected applications, so match the organiser's name and official domain before you submit. NerdWallet tracks 45 women's grants in total. Check NerdWallet's list of small-business grants for women.
Do nonbinary or woman-identifying founders qualify for women's grants?
Often, yes. The Girlboss Foundation Grant accepts women and woman-identifying entrepreneurs, BMO Celebrating Women includes nonbinary owners, and SoGal funds Black women and nonbinary founders. The wording varies between programs, so save the exact eligibility sentence in your application notes. Read Indeed's guide to business grants for women.
What funding should women founders stack alongside grants?
Grants rarely cover your runway, so combine them with revenue-based financing, crowdfunding pre-sales, pitch competitions and customer revenue. Assign each source to a milestone: grants for prototypes, pre-sales for inventory, loans for equipment. Review the mix every quarter. Explore the Female Entrepreneur Playbook.

Are there free grants for women-owned businesses?
Yes. Grants are free money that you do not repay, unlike loans. Most legitimate programs charge no application fee. A few, such as the Amber Grant, ask for a small fee. Be cautious with any offer that asks for large upfront payments, bank login details, or promises guaranteed approval, since these are common signs of grant scams.
What is the Amber Grant?

What are the Amber Grant requirements?
Applicants must be women who own at least 50% of their business and be at least 18 years old. The business must be based in the United States or Canada. Applicants complete a short online form that describes the business and how they would use the money, and pay a small application fee. Both new and established businesses can apply.
How much money can female founders get from grants?
Award sizes differ widely. Some grant roundups list awards from $1,000 to well over $100,000, and one 2026 program advertised funding from $25,000 to $750,000 with no application fee. The Women Founders Network Fast Pitch competition gives a $25,000 cash grant to the first-place winner in each of its tech and non-tech tracks. Many smaller grants fall in the $5,000 to $25,000 range.
What is the Hey Helen Grant?
The Hey Helen Grant is offered by Visionaries and gives three grants of $10,000 to female founders in each cycle. Grant cycles run three times per year, and the program also includes one final year-end award. It suits early-stage women entrepreneurs who want funding without giving up equity.
How do I apply for the Cartier Women's Initiative in 2026?

Are there grants for Black women-owned businesses in 2026?
Yes, though options can change from year to year. Groups such as Black Girl Ventures host pitch competitions for Black and Brown women founders, and Black Enterprise often shares current grant opportunities for women and small business owners. Some race-specific programs have widened their eligibility after legal challenges, so read each program's current rules before applying.
Does the federal government offer grants for women-owned businesses?
The federal government rarely gives grants for starting or running a regular small business. Research-focused companies can apply for SBIR and STTR funding. The Small Business Administration supports women through Women's Business Centers, which offer free or low-cost counseling, and through the Women-Owned Small Business Federal Contracting Program, which helps women-owned firms win government contracts.
Is Reddit a good place to find female founder grants?
Reddit can help you learn from other founders who have applied for grants. Users often share which programs responded, how long decisions took, and which offers turned out to be scams. Treat these posts as personal experiences, and confirm deadlines, amounts, and eligibility on each grant's official website before you apply.
